Daughter of James and Ellen nee Cussens
Married Francis Malone 1886 at Gilmore with 5 children born of this union. The Tumut and Adelong Times (NSW : 1864 - 1867; 1899 - 1950) Tue 13 Dec 1938 MRS. ANNIE AMELIA MALONE Yet another of the daughters of the very early pioneers of the district joined the great majority at 8 a.m. on Saturday last when Mrs. Annie Amelia Malone, widow of the late Francis Malone, of "Avondale," Tumut Plains, breathed her last, after an illness extending over four weeks, duodenal ulcer being the ascribed cause of death. Deceased was the second daughter of the late James McGrath, of Gocup and of Mrs. Cussen, of Tumut, who re-married after her first husband's death. On 25th August, 1886, she married at Ferndale, Gilmore. Mr. Francis Malone, son of the late Edward Malone, one of the earliest pioneers of Tumut district. The young couple first settled down on Little River, Tumut Plains, and later made their home at "Avondale," fronting the Tumut River, Tumut Plains, where they lived the rest of their lives. To the union were born three daughters and two sons, the daughters being Mrs.Ethel Mary Rochfort (Grenfell). Annie Eileen O'Reilly (Gunning) and Muriel May (deceased) and the sons John Stanley (deceased) and Francis Timothy and Reginald Joseph (Tumut Plains). During her illness she was constantly attended by her daughter (Mrs Rochfort); daughter-in-law (Mrs. Frank Malone) and Mrs. Dave Leferve, and the Very Rev. Dean J. Sharkey and Rev. Fr. McPhillips ministered to her spiritual needs and the last rites of her church. She was a devoted church woman, a loving mother, a trusty friend and of an endearing disposition. The wrench is a great trial to her children whose father predeceased her by 10 years, and only sister living, Miss McGrath Russell-st., Tumut. The funeral on Saturday afternoon last left her late residence for the Roman Catholic portion of the Tumut New Cemetery, where the remains were interred. Very Rev. Dean Sharkey officiated with the burial service and Mr. H. W. Baker carrying out the mortuary duties. The pallbear ers were Messrs. Frank T. Malone (son), E. W. Malone, Fred. Malone, Frank Henery, T. M. Malone and Michael Malone (nephews). Included in the wreaths which covered the casket were floral tributes from the Tumut A. and P. Association, Tumut Plains Agricultural Bureau, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wilson and famlly, Mr. and Mrs. A. Walmsley, Mr. and Mrs. W. H.Crampton and family, Mr. and Mrs. C. Lefevre, Bill, Pat. and June Atkinson. The chief mourners were Mrs. Rochfort, Frank and Reg Malone and Miss McGrath. |
