| Note 1: His headstone has him born about 1850. I am sceptical. More likely about 1856 the year of his parent marriage - rather than 5 years before it. Patrick was 6 at immigration in 1862 |

The Tumut and Adelong Times 1 Mar 1927
LATE MRS. BRIDGET McGRATH Many of our longlived, esteemed old people have crossed the Great Divide within the past two years, but few had the privilege of living as long as Mrs. McGrath, who was within two years of the century at the time of her death. She was born in County Clair, Ireland, and was married and had two children when she and her husband decided to try new lands in the endeavour to better themselves, and chose Australia as their future home. So sixty-two years ago they landed in Australia, and shortly after went to Tumut, and have lived in Tumut and Adelong ever since. They were blessed with ten children — eight boys and two girls. Thirty-two years ago her husband passed away, and the good old lady has resided with members of her family ever since. She was a devoted mother, and a kind friend. When able to get about well, she was continually helping the sick and needy and many families had reason to be thankful to Mrs. McGrath for extreme kindness. The surviving children are: Patrick (Bombowlee), Thomas (Adelong), Daniel (Adelong), James (Mondongo), Miss Bridget (Adelong), Mrs. C. King (Tumut). Miss Bridget has always remained with the mother, and tenderly saw to all her requirements. Besides the remaining members of the family there are 31 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Her remains, were laid to rest in the Roman Catholic portion of the Tumut Cemetery. |
