The Tumut and Adelong Times 11 Jun 1929
KILLED IN MOTOR ACCIDENT A tumut citizen. MR. EDWARD G. BRIDLE. INSTANTANEOUS DEATH. WIFE ALSO INJURED. NOW IN. ST. VINCENT'S HOSPITAL The tragic news was heralded over the 'phone from Sydney on Sun day evening that a motor accident had happened that afternoon, where in one of Tumut's oldest and most highly esteemed residents, Mr. Ed wad G. Bridle, late of 'Avenix,' Bru ngle, had been killed instantly ; and yesterday , the further intellegence came through that his wife was in St. Vincent's Hospital suffering from injuries sustained in the same occur rence. No details were forthcoming, and even yesterday, though relatives sought over the 'phone and by tele gram to get some particulars, none were available at late hour in the afternoon. The first intimation of the occur ence was rang through from deceas ed's brother, Harry, now living in the City, to Mrs. Hilleard, at Tal bingo, who broke tho news of the sad happening to other Tumut dis trict relatives. Mr Dave McGruer (son-in-law) also received the, further intimation that Mrs Bridle had been injured in the accident, but whether dangerously or otherwise was not disclosed. Notice was given, however, that the interment of Mr E. G. Bridle's body is to take place in one of the City cemeteries to-day. Mr and Mrs McGruer left by car to catch the express at Cootamundra last night, and Mr. T. McLennan (son in-law) took yesterday's train from Tumut. The three sons in the coun try (Les, Wallie and Dick) left Wagga by Sunday night's express. Mrs. Mc Lennan was in the City with her par ents and brother Jack at the time of the accident. Only a couple of days ago Mr. Bridle wrote to friends stating how heartily sick he already was of City life and how he was yearning to return to rural conditions. |
