Personal Notes:

John married Sarah nee Connolly in 1830 in St. Matthew's Church of England, Windsor, NSW. They had eight (8), children, William Gabriel, Simon, Matilda, Sarah, Mary Ann, John Joseph, James, and Peter.

"John Freebody arrived in the Monaro district in 1847 and entered the services of Abraham Brierly at Woolway which was then managed by Alexander Hamilton. He returned to Windsor NSW and took his family, by horse and dray, over roads that were merely bush tracks to the Monaro. The family built a slab hut with a thatched grass roof. There wasn't any fireplace inside the hut and the cooking was done outside in the bushman's style. When they established themselves they bought some cattle and sheep which they proceeded to breed. In 1852 John left the Monaro to try his luck in the goldfields at Bendigo in Victoria and he returned home several years later with several bags of gold. In 1860 he bought the license for the "Five Ales" Hotel at Middlingbank. In 1861 he bought property at Arable at Woolway." Source http://monaropioneers.com/
