Personal Notes: |
Leslie was the fourth of the family of fIve sons born to Herman and Nellie, one ofwhom died as a young child. After leaving school, he worked as a mill hand. Leslie is said to have been a footballer of some promise, and it was while playing a game that he suffered an injury that is thought to have been aggravated by heavy lifting at the sawmill where he was employed. Tragically, he died little more than a month later in the Ipswich General Hospital, cut down at the beginning of his manhood. Leslie is buried at the Esk Cemetery. His death certificate shows the cause of his death as Laundry's Ascending Paralysis; a condition caused by damage to a nerve centre. |
