Sydney Morning Herald 3 Oct 1892
Pockley, Robert Francis (?–1892)
Regret in the city was expressed at the announcement of the sudden demise of Captain R F. [Robert Francis] Pockley. Captain Pockley for more than half a century has been identified with the shipping history of Australia. An old Australian geography (1846) was shown in the Merchants' Exchange, in which his opinion is quoted as to the respective merits of Boydtown and the opposite side of Twofold Bay for the site of the harbour proper. In the very early days as a boy he sailed in these seas with his father, who commanded a whaling vessel, and having qualified himself for the position of shipmaster, he came out to Sydney finally in 1841 to settle here. Captain Pockley hold the position of superintendent of pilots and lights for the colony at the time of the Donaldson Ministry, and at the date of the wreck of the Dunbar he was harbourmaster here, and went down to the scene of that memorable disaster in a whaleboat the night it occurred. In 1854 Captain Pockley married the youngest daughter of the late Major Antill, who came out to the colony with Governor Macquarie, to whom he was ADC. Dr Pockley, of St Leonard's, is a son, and one of 12 of a family, who, with the widow, are called upon to mourn their loss. Captain Pockley was Lloyd's surveyor and representative in New South Wales up to the time of his death, and held that position for 20 years.

The fine old church at Morpeth was beautifully decorated with white flowers on Wednesday, May 31, when Dr. Norman V. Pockley, of Sydney, and Miss Florence May Waddy, elder daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Waddy, were married. The ceremony was performed by the Bishop of Newcastle, assisted by the Rev. Stacy Waddy, brother of the bride, and the Rev. H. A. Wood, rector of the parish. The bride was given away by her father. Miss Katie Waddy attended her sister as bridesmaid, and Dr. Eric Pockley was best man. The Bishop presented to the bride the handsome prayer book which he used during the ceremony. The church was crowded with friends, who afterwards attended the reception by Mrs. Waddy at the Commercial Bank, which was gaily decorated with flags for the occasion. The bride's wedding dress was of ivory brocade, with a transparent yoke and bertha of lace, chiffon trills, and a panel of accordion-pleated chiffon frills down the front of the skirt. She carried a shower bouquet, and wore a diamond and sapphire ring, the gifts of the bridegroom. Her veil was embroidered and decorated with old Honiton lace. The bridesmaid wore cream voile, and a pale blue hat. She carried a bouquet of carnations and autumn leaves, with pale blue streamers, and wore a brooch of turquoise and pearls, the gift of the bridegroom. The bride's golng-away dress was of navy blue with a white vest and touches of reseda green. She also wore a reseda green hat, trimmed with pale blue. The presents were very numerous.

ST. JOHN'S, GORDON.
A window representing St. Matthew, and in memory of the late Dr. Norman V. Pockley and Mrs. Pockley, was unveiled in St. John's Church, Gordon, yesterday by the rector (the Rev. W. F. Pyke). The window was a gift from members of the family.

Evening News (Sydney) 17 Oct 1910
The Killara and Australian Clubs cancelled their fixtures on Saturday, owing to the death of Dr. Norman. V. Pockley, The sad news came as a great shock to golfers generally, many of whom were ignorant of his illness. Well known, well liked, a good player, and a, good sportsman, his death, will be felt in the golf world, and will rob many players of a good friend and the game of a great enthusiast. Dr. Pockley was a member of both the Killara and Australian Golf Clubs, but it was with the former that he was chiefly associated. His record in the club events was a good one, and he had for some years represented Killara in the A team in the suburban interclub compe titions. He had also represented the Austra lian Golf Club in several matches.
