Occupation - contractor at marriage. (? sheep) Australia Marriage Index, 1788-1950 about William De La Gard Name: William De La Gard Spouse Name: Ellen Isabela Boddington Marriage Place: Victoria Registration Place: Victoria Registration Year: 1873 Registration number: 740 Is this the correct William de la Garde?? The Argus 11 April 1887 ATTEMPTED SUICIDE AT BRUNSWICK A case of attempted suicide occurred at Brunswick on Saturday morning at 8 o'clock, when a man named Robert Isaac Boddington, residing in Port Melbourne, endeavoured to destroy himself at the house of his brother- in-law William De La Garde, living in George-street, East Brunswick, whom he was visiting. It appears that De La Garde had occasion to go into the room of his relative, and then observed Boddington holding a razor to his throat. Just as he was in the act of applying it, Da La Garde rushed up to him, and succeeded, after a struggle, in extracting it from his grasp. De La Garde then left the room for a few moments, and on returning was surprised to find that Borrington had made his exit from the dwelling. Information was at once conveyed to the police, and, after several hours' search, Constable Simmons and De La Garde discovered the would be suicide at the Moonee Ponds Creek, near Union-street, where it was supposed he intended to again make another effort to commit self-destruction. He was arrested and sent to the Melbourne Gaol. Boddington has been employed for many years in the Railway department, and has held important positions, being a well educated man. His attempt to destroy himself was due, it was stated, to family troubles. |
