OBITUARY
MR. RICHARD CURRAN
After a very short illness the death occurred at a private hospital in Mackay last Sunday of Richard Curran, well known and highly respected cane farmer and grazier of Trueman Siding, near Finch Hatton.
Born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, 67 years ago, the late Mr. Curran came to Australia with his parents, brother and sister, at the age of three. The family settled in the Mackay district. While in his teens he worked at a butcher's establishment at Walkerston and later was employed at Holmes's Estate, Wallingford. In 1907 the late Mr. Curran acquired a cane farming property at Miranl West and remained there for about two and a half years. He then took over the cane grow ing and grazing property at True- man Siding which he conducted successfully until five or six years ago when he retired, leav ing the management of the pro perty to his sons, Messrs. George and James Curran. One of the most important parts of his business was the raising of beef cattle, in which he had success. Deceased took a keen and active interest in local authority affairs and from 1926 was, for many years, a member of the Mirani Shire Council, from which position he eventually retired. For a number of years he was a director of the Cattle Creek Sugar Milling Association Ltd., a position he held at the time of his death. The late Mr. Curran was a loyal and devoted churchman and was one of the stalwarts of the Finch Hatton Presbyterian Church. Of a most unassuming disposition he won the esteem of all who came in contact with him. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Rachel Gow (Andergrove) and Mrs. Jessie Barker (Eungella), and two sons, Messrs. George and James Curran Trueman Siding). One sister, Mrs. B. Heath, resides at Mirani and another, Mrs. M. J. Weiske, at Byron-street, Mackay. The funeral took place from the Presbyterian Church, Finch Hat ton, on Monday, the last rites being conducted by the Rev. Robert, Maitland and Mr. W. Calder Allan, elder of the church
