OBITUARY MRS. CLARA COOPER A prominent figure in the comercial life of Tumut, in the person of Mrs. Clara Cooper, relict of the late James R. Cooper, passed peacefully away at her home, Russell-st., at 7.40 on Tuesday morning last, at the age of 76 years, she being a daughter of the town and a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Campbell. She had been ailing for some months, but not laid up until she suffered a bad turn on the previous Saturday morning, from which she did not rally. She had, however, enjoyed a merry Christmas. On December 6, 1893, at Adelong, she married her late husband, who predeceased her 16 years ago. Forty two years ago they purchased from the late J. Rodgers the old established bakery business in Russell-st., which they successfully carried on until Mr. Cooper's death, and since, with the aid of two of her sons, Herbert and Thomas, and daughters, Jessie (Mrs. Harry Kell) and Jean (Mrs. E. Ibbotson), she took control and managed the business affairs, earning the goodwill of the public and the consistent patronage of a huge section of the community. There were seven children in the family, two of whom (Bessie, who died in childhood, and James of Adelong, whose death occurred 15 years ago) are deceased. The survivors are Herbert and Tom of Tumut, Harry of Wyalong, and Jean (Mrs. E. Ibbotson) and Jessie (Mrs. Harr.v Kell) of Tumult. There are fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Obe sister (Mrs. Tom Dean of Tumit) and one brother (Mr. Fred. Campbell of Sydney) still live, while the brothers and sisters deceased are Thomas ann Robert and Annie (Mrs. Alex Davis sr.) and Emma (Mrs. Harding) and twin-sister of the subject of this obituary. The funeral took place on Wednesday last, (the remains being interred in the Presbyterian portion of the Old Cemetery, alongside those of her late husband. Rev. S. Broadfoot, Anglican, in the absence of a Presbyterian minister, performed the last rites at the graveside and Mr. C. W. Burt attended to the funeral direction and the burial duties. The pall-hearers were Herbert and Harry (sons), Messrs. E. Ibbotson and H. Kell (sons-in-law), Noel Ibbotson and Alec Cooper (grandsons).
