The Tumut and Adelong Times 12 Apr 1949
OBITUARY MR. HERBERT C. COOPER The death occurred in the Tumut and District Hospital on Friday morning last of Mr. Herbert Clarence Cooper, of Capper Street, Tumut, after a long illness. The late Mr. Cooper who was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Cooper, was born at Tumut 58 years ago. For many years he was employed in his parent's bakery business in Russell Street, principally as carter. On the sale of the business following his mother's death he continued at his trade for some time but after the death of his wife Mr. Cooper secured a position in Sydney with the N.S.W. Railways. He returned home in July last and was admitted to hospital a few days later suffering from pneumonia. He was a patient in the local institution for six months. He was discharged but after 3 months he was obliged to re-enter hospital six weeks ago with heart trouble and which caused his death. The late Mr. Cooper possessed a cheery disposition and was popular amongst his fellows. He was a member of the M.U. Oddfellows' but did not take an active part in public affairs. He married Miss Florence Boyce who predeceased him nearly two years ago. The family surviving are Les and Angus, Dulcie and Gladys (Mrs Graeme Baker), all of Tumut. There is also one brother Harry and two sisters Jean (Mrs. E. Ibbotson) and Jessie (Mrs. H. Kell) surviving. Another sister Bessie died in infancy. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon last, the cortege leaving the Presbyterian Church after a short service conducted by Rev. S. Woodger for the Presbyterian portion of the New Cemetery. Messrs W. W. Beavan and Son had charge of the mortuary arrangements and the pall-bearers were Messrs Angus and Les Cooper (sons), Graeme Baker (son-in-law), H. Kell, D. Herron and E. Ibbotson.
