Personal Notes:
MR. J. HAMILTON
The death at Temora last week-end of Mr. James Hamilton, aged 76 years, removes a former well-known resident of Junee in the 90's, where he was in turn farmer, cordial manufacturer, and licensee of the Commercial Hotel. Mr. Hamilton married a Miss Jarvis of Harefield. A grown-up family survives. Mr. Robert Hamilton of 'Rosevale,' Illabo is a brother, as also is Thomas, of Sawtell.

Private JAMES HAMILTON Service No.6042 3rd Infantry Battalion
Date of embarkation: 22nd August 1916

After being an inmate of the Temora District Hospital for some time the death occurred of a well-known and highly respected resident of Junee, Temora, West Wyalong and Barmedman districts, in the person of Mr. James Hamilton, aged 74 years, who passed away in that institution last week.

The malady from which he suffered necessitated an operation, which was performed the previous day. After the operation everything appeared to be proceeding satisfactorily when he suddenly took a bad turn, says the Temora "Independent". A native of Adelong he married Miss Mary Ann Jarvis at Harefield, and subsequently moved to Junee.

From there he came to Temora, where he followed the calling of a butcher. When the Wyalong gold rush broke out, he was one of many thousands who flocked there in search of the elusive precious metal. From there he came to Barmedman where he made his home and resided up till the time he entered hospital.

The surviving members of his family are his wife and children Mrs. Nicholls (Grogan), Robert William (A.I.F., Wagga), Albert (W.A.) Mrs. Sheehan (Sydney) J. Herbert (better known as Jim), formerly of Temora, Gordon Keith (Sydney) and Mrs. Binks (Merriwa). The brothers and sisters of deceased are Thomas (Sawtell), Robert (Illabo), Mrs Marion Jones (Wagga), and Mrs. Allison Bell (Ashfield). Another sister was the late Mrs. Joseph Speirs, mother of Messrs Robert and Walter Speirs of Temora and several other sons who are known throughout the Riverina.

As a butcher, miner and shearer, the deceased, a returned soldier, was one of the best known personalities of the south western districts, and possessed characteristics which won for him many friends.

The funeral moved from the Presbyterian Church for the Temora Cemetery. Rev. H. M. M.Couths officiated at the funeral service and also at the graveside.
