McNAUGHTMr. Arthur Stanley McNAUGHT, manager of the Townsvillebranch of the Australian Estates Co., Ltd., and aprominent figure in commercial and tennis circles,died in a private hospital early on Monday night aftera lengthy illness. A native of Brisbane, the late Mr. McNAUGHT came toTownsville about 1910. He made an immediateimpression as a tennis player and became anacquisition to the game in Townsville both as a playerand administrator. Apart from the years spent withthe A.I.F. in World War I, and a term of less than ayear in the West for his firm, he had served theTownsville Lawn Tennis Association as secretary sinceits inception and the growth of the sport inTownsville owed much to his enthusiasm and hisorganising ability. ... was formed with "Mac," as hewas popularly known, ...In the commercial sphere he was highly esteemed. After returning from the first Great War, Mr. McNAUGHTwent to Richmond to open a branch there for AustralianEstates Ltd., remaining for ten months. Returning toTownsville he took up the position of accountant. Hisappointment as manager in 1926 was acclaimed bothlocally and in the West where he had made a wide andvaluable connection. Mc. McNAUGHT was also interested in the CaledonianAssociation. No Scots gathering was complete withouthim and in his younger days was a prominent piper. Just over two years ago his health became seriouslyimpaired but he bravely carried on until a suddenattack on Monday brought the end.
